The distinctive fruity and bitter taste of Orval beer means it has become a genuine reference in the exclusive world of authentic Trappist beers.
Orval beer is a high fermentation beer. The ageing process adds a fruity note, which strikes a subtle balance between the beer’s full-bodied yet complex flavour and bitterness.
The beer was first brewed in 1931 and owes its unparalleled taste to the quality of the water, the hops and the yeast used. The brewery has selected very aromatic and unique hop varieties, which hark back to the first brewmaster of Orval, who hailed from Bavaria. The beer’s aromas are very pronounced while maintaining the right level of bitterness thanks to the English method of dry hopping.
The various stages of fermentation – combined fermentation with the original yeast and with wild yeast, followed by fermentation in the bottle – mean the beer must age for some time and requires numerous quality controls.
The Orval Brewery’s activities are governed by the wishes of the monastic community. Part of the revenue generated by the sale of its products goes to charity.
This ethical dimension is one of the three criteria of the “Authentic Trappist Product” designation. To qualify for this designation, a product must be manufactured in a Trappist abbey, the monastic community must be directly involved in the management of the activities and the revenue must be essentially used for charity.
Orval beer is increasingly becoming a much sought after product. At the same time, the Orval Brewery wishes to preserve its know-how, while remaining true to its values. Its production is entirely dedicated to delivering quality and has adhered to the same manufacturing methods for over eighty years.
Like every Trappist beer with the “Authentic Trappist Product” product label, Orval beer must observe strict production methods. The beer will always be locally brewed in the abbey near the Mathilde source.
The various production stages are a guarantee of quality while respecting the original production methods. This approach, which focuses on controlled and constant growth, means there are also limits.
While the Orval Brewery believes in a moderate production, it is anything but negligible. The brewery produces 22 million bottles every year. More than 85% of its production is sold on the Belgian market.
Within the historic perimeter, the monastic community and its brewmasters have continually developed the brewing activities. The brewery permanently and continually invests in its production equipment in order to ensure better control of the brewing process and regular production. The aim is to satisfy demand and honour the loyalty of Orval enthusiasts.
Omnipollo® is a beer production company founded by brewer Henok Fentie and artist Karl Grandin in 2010 with a shared vision of changing the perception of beer — forever.
We brew a plethora of styles to explore what beer has and can become. As a joint and equal partnership between a brewer and a graphic artist our creative process has come to resemble the work shop of other pop cultural expressions such as music.
Our beers are always a collaborative effort and we brew at breweries in all corners of the world. This approach means we get to stay curious, grounded and tuned in. Much like that good house guest.
Ārpus Brewing Co. is an independent microbrewery, founded in 2017 by craft beer geeks from Latvia. We brew what we love – juicy hop forward ales and fruity sour beers.
We chose Latvian word Ārpus for the name of our brewery, as its meaning reflects the types of beers we brew – outside of the box, beyond the mass made lagers, beers with overwhelming flavours and aromas for people brave enough to step out of their comfort zone.
The brewery is located just outside Riga (Latvia), equipped with a 10hL brewhouse and 20hL fermentation vessels. Our beer is packaged in 440mL cans and KeyKegs, then stored in a cold room to keep it fresh longer.
Sori Brewing is located in the capital of Estonia, Tallinn. Backed by crowdfunding investors, Sori Brewing is on a mission to make the world more fun with better craft beer. Started by two Finns who moved away from their home country to brew without compromises. Not far, but far enough to make it count. Together with an amazing team, these guys are dedicated to bring you joy in a form of craft beer.
Currently brewing around 3000 hl a year and running a barrel program with almost 200 barrels. We enjoy brewing a wide range of beers, from barrel-aged big beers to refreshing sours and super hoppy IPA’s.
Brewing within style regulations is a great starting point and the classics always stay there. However, we are here to create new. We are experimenting and pushing the limits with classic brews. We do it in a way that shows respect to the original style. We brew with a Belgo-American mindset and source some inspiration from our Nordic heritage.
If we stayed brewing in Finland, we would feel like artists who are only given black and white. We want to be those guys that re-painted Mona Lisa and added her an ironic moustache.
We use pure water from our own well, quality Finnish malts and the finest of hops. Also, most* of our beers are vegan – which means we don’t use any animal based finings. Many of our beers can be naturally low in gluten and for the beers we state that are gluten free, we always have a lab result to certify that.
We have a very humble approach on brewing – work hard, learn and get results. It has taken years to master these skills. The more we learn, the more we want to share our knowledge with everyone. We owe it to the beer loving society that has raised us to be the beer lovers we are now. We want to amaze fellow brewers with what we have done.
We are proudly located in Buffalo, New York. Since opening in 2016 we have consistently created innovative beers while focusing on quality. 2019 will see a significant expansion, allowing us to keep up with demand, get significantly more beer in cans, and start a sizeable barrel ageing program.
We are a small team of beer lovers with a clear mission:
Brew our favourite beers, and have a good time.
Our brewery recently relocated to Knaresborough, after two (and a bit) years at our original site in Kirkbymoorside.
The brewery launched into orbit in 2017, with Aron & Cameron calling time on the day jobs and never looking back. Since then we’ve been busy brewing as many unique beers as possible, whilst modestly honing our craft,
learning everything we can about this mysterious liquid, and trying our damnedest to cram as much fun
into every minute of it as possible.
We invite you into our little world filled with hops, good music, and space travel.
Love, team TP.
Utopian Brewing have created a new brewery in picturesque mid-Devon, celebrating British brewing and incredible lager.
Britain has a great brewing heritage and we plan to add to that with our Lagers that are designed for everyone who wants a better choice to the international mega brewers.
Brewed in a classical way but using our modern brewery we are making lagers that are interesting and of the highest quality but first and foremost easy to choose and enjoyable to drink.
Our ambition is to create some exceptional premium lager, brewed with top quality British ingredients to give people a choice that goes beyond current craft beers and big brand lager. Our lagers will be innovative, flavoursome and most importantly, delicious.
We are a modern independent craft brewery from Sligo, on Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way. We brew innovative and ground breaking beers, inspired by ancient and classic styles.
We set out to make interesting and innovative beers, with a nod towards the ancient and classic beer styles that were common in our hinterland for generations.
While known for our award winning stout range and a stellar set of IPA’s that make up most of our core range, our sour programme is emerging as probably our point of differentiation. The Púca sour range in particular has captured the imagination of the beer consumer who wants a tart, effervescent mixed fermentation sour beer. It’s supported by our Heather Sour, Apple sour and a few other special and collaboration sours we’ve made along the way.
We also collaborate with many of our peers in the industry, and have made beers with breweries from across the world that have been truly ground breaking for us.
We came together in late 2013 with the ambition of building an innovative and ambitious brewery here in Sligo. We’ve got an eclectic team, with several skillsets and backgrounds from across 2 continents combining to create The White Hag, Sligo’s first brewery in over 100 years.
Micro Brewery focusing on hoppy IPA, thick stouts and sour sours!
Nerdbrewing was founded as a commercial gypsy-brewery in 2015 by Hannes Gruber and Karin Carlsson. Hannes had for many years before that been a successful home brewer and won quite a few medals at different competitions, for instance the Swedish homebrewing championships. Since then Karin has left the company and Hannes has continued in close cooperation with Lilla Ölfabriken and Chad Beer and the three share a brewery on Norbergsgatan in Malmö with the goal of increasing production and reaching a wider audience.
The name of the brewery itself and the names of the beers all stem from Hannes background in computer science and software development. Since sharing is caring, Nerdbrewing brought open source from the software world into the world of brewing and the recipes are free for any homebrewer to try out!
